The Panther Post features talented Primavera students with a love for the arts. This month,ย we’re sharing a narrativeย poem written by Book Club member Mia Almaza.

“I like to write poems, sing, dance, write songs and I always like to perform in my room.”
– Mia Almaza, 15, 10th grade

Sunrise

Once upon a time
there was a girl,
who was as precious as pearls
and who was as beautiful as theย sunrise
and her blue eyes would sparkleย in the moonlight,
and her longย curly hair would shine so bright
and she was once the daughterย of a king and queen
and as soon as she turned seventeen
she overheard her motherย and father talking,
they were to take her,
far far away
their plan was to trap her in aย secret chamber
and there was no way for her to escape,
her parents love being King and Queen
and they didnโ€™t let anyone getย in between,
not even their only daughter
who made her feel like a loser
and now sheโ€™s a lonely girl
who has no one to hold
and instead of crying she triedย finding,
a way to escape
trying to find a way to get out of this dreadful place
her livelihood dependedย on the sunrise,
she always dreamt of flyingย with birds intoย the sky
where she is free
to dance,
to sing,
to laugh,
to speak,
to put the past behind her
and to just live a classy life,
trying not to be strife,
with her parents,
who had betrayed her
and yet she forgives them
and doesnโ€™t get revenge on them
instead she escapes the dreadful chamber,
by singing to the badger
who is the strongest in the land
and as soon as the badger set her free,
she flees
and she expressed her gratitude towards the badger
and leaves
before the sunriseย appears
finally sheโ€™s free,
from being trapped inside that chamber
for so many years
she walks to the sea
to get a closer glimpseย of the sunrise
and she flees,
into the sea
and she flies
into the sky
and she sings a melody with the birds
the serenading melodiesย filled her heart
above the sky the joy ofย the sunrise
andย the singing birds
making her feeling part of
something special
she had the most beautifulย heart
she was boastful
she didnโ€™t care that sheย wasnโ€™t Queen
and that sheย didnโ€™t find herย King
because she knows that someday,
she will find her trueย love
and when she does they will be together,
headway and they will soar
into the sky
and they will live in the forest
and follow the sunrise
and every night
they would wish upon a star andย sing
and they would promise each other
that no matterย where they are
every night they would sing
whether theyโ€™re togetherย or far apart
they shall wish upon a shooting star
and sing into theย night sky
and they shall live happily ever after!
