“What If…”

By Sofia Peraza

What if world hunger was no such thing?

What if the song bird had no song to sing?

What if the bear had never liked honey?

What if the world wasn’t run by money?

What if the nations could all get along?

What if hatred wasn’t so strong?

What if the soldiers could finally come home?

What if the orphan didn’t have to sleep alone?

What if kindness was something we all had?

What if there was no such emotion as sad?

What if laughter was the cure to all things?

What if miracles are what our smiles could bring?

What if the heart could never be broken?

What if the mute could finally be heard spoken?

What if trust was something of worth?

What if, instead of crying, we were laughing at birth?

What if we spread love, instead of hate?

What if her son wouldn’t stay out so late?

What if his father would stop all his drinking?

What if we all acted only after thinking?

What if the child was happy at home?

What if he didn’t have to feel so alone?

What if the world wasn’t full of crime?

What if the clock never told us the time?

What if we stopped, and really looked at our lives?

What if all husbands could truly love their wives?

What if the young had never faced death?

What if the addict had never tried meth?

What if the gunman never entered that school?

What if stopping bullies was looked at as cool?

What if the planes had never crashed into the towers?
What if we had time to sleep, for just two more hours?

What if people saw no color, or race?

What if the world was a friendly place?

What if we stopped judging and shunning?
What if someone found you truly stunning?

What if blessings were rare? Would we be more grateful?

What if family wasn’t so hateful?

What if the roller coaster lost its thrill?

What if the ice cube no longer had chill?

What if I told you your life had meaning?

What if I didn’t laugh at your dreaming?
What if someone gave you a hug?
What if happiness was the strongest drug?

What if we loved the little things in life?

What if the angry could put away their strife?

What if the world was a lovely place?

What if love was everything’s base?
