Sophomores and juniors: Do you have summer plans yet?

Whether you do or not, we hope your week of June 3–9 is open so you can take advantage of this awesome opportunity.

It’s a week-long summer event taking place at Arizona State University (ASU). During this week, you’ll live like a college student. You’ll live in the dorms. And you’ll participate in several activities to spruce up that college application.

César Chávez Leadership Institute–Summer Event

Your week at ASU with the César Chávez Leadership Institute will be focused on three things:

  • College preparation

  • Leadership development

  • Community engagement

As you go through your week, your days will be jammed pack with activities. You will get to talk with financial advisors who will help you figure out paying for college. Career advisors will also meet with you to help you decide on a career path and develop a plan.

You’ll hear from important community leaders, including professors and government officials. There will be several community engagement activities, including team building and service projects.

Although it will be a high-energy week, you’ll get some time to relax too. Some of the downtime activities could include:

  • Dancing

  • Going to a Diamondbacks game

  • Spending time at the Sun Devil Fitness Center

How to Apply for the César Chávez Leadership Institute

Remember, this is only available to 10th and 11th grade students. In order to apply for the César Chávez Leadership, you’ll need to do a number of things:

  • Write your top five academic or non-academic achievements and honors.

  • Include your top five volunteer, civic engagement or extracurricular activities.

  • List any other programs/activities you might participate in this summer.

  • Answer an essay question. The topic: issues or obstacles you see in your community that you’d like improved. Explain why it’s an issue and how it can be improved. (limit: 700 words)

  • Answer another essay question. This topic: Share an academic subject you have difficulty in. Why is it difficult for you, and what have you done to overcome those difficulties? (Limit: 700 words).

  • Provide a short paragraph on why you want to attend the César Chávez Leadership Institute.

  • Provide your most current transcript.

  • Include two letters of recommendation.

This is a great opportunity to check out college student life, get important questions answered and become college prepped. This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss!

The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 15.
