When you first heard about attending an online middle school or high school, you may have been a little hesitant. In fact, you probably had so many questions that you felt like it was just too much to handle. Well, you’re not alone. That’s why we took the top four online high school myths, and busted them, in this blog post!
Myth #1- Colleges won’t accept diplomas from an online school
This is a big one. A lot of people worry that because they attended an online high school, the diploma they earn is somehow not worth as much as the one from a brick-and-mortar school. Not true. As long as the online school is accredited from the proper board such as the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI – the accreditation unit of Cognia)–where Primavera Online High School received its accreditation–you will get all the credit needed.
Myth #2- Online school is as expensive as a private school
We can easily bust this one! Primavera Online High School is completely tuition free. State-sponsored charter schools give online students the opportunity to get a quality education for free and get ahead. Some online schools do charge and that’s why we recommend you do your research and find out what the best fit is for you. At Primavera, we are always enrolling. Apply online here!
Myth #3- Distance learning students don’t get enough socialization
This is another myth that may worry some parents and students. Being in an online environment could seem isolating at times and even thought to have a negative impact on the students because they’re not socializing or making friends at school. At Primavera, we have a variety of activities for students to attend so they can get to know their peers and be social. Because we have an online environment, we provide the opportunity to interact with other students and teachers through our Parent- Student- Portal where we house message boards, provide email communication and more. We value student and staff interactions and encourage the Primavera community to stay connected online, as well as offline.
Myth #4- Credits online won’t be able to transfer to traditional high schools
This one is an ongoing myth we are proud to say we can bust! In the past, credits may not have transferred because traditional high schools did not have to accept other school’s credits. But with Arizona’s new laws, all of your credits must now be transferred. Even if the traditional school tries to make the core class you took here at Primavera an elective credit, you can opt to take an end-of-course test that if you pass, they must accept as a core credit counting toward graduation. If you would like more information on this busted myth, check out Arizona’s Department of Education website by clicking here.

Hi James M. Braden. Primavera is fully accredited and aligned to all Arizona state-mandated standards, as are public schools. If you would like more information, check out our School Profile page, or you can always give us a call at 480.456.6678. Thank you for your question, and we look forward to working with you at Primavera 🙂
is your diploma accepted in all 50 states, all credits seen as acceptable in all states
Hi, Tony! All our credits transfer withing Arizona. Since we are fully accredited, most credits will be accepted in all 50 states, but each state has its own rules. However, our diploma is nationally recognized throughout the country:) Thank you for your question!
So just to me sure colleges and universities will still accept you if you graduate from primavera
Hi, Cassia. Thank you for your question 🙂 Yes, our curriculum is fully-accredited and nationally renowned by colleges and universities.
I work outside the home. Can I continue to work and have my child enrolled in Primavera?
Hi, Tina. Absolutely! Our curriculum is designed for the teen learner, and because we have teachers available to provide one-on-one support throughout the day, you can be sure your child will get the attention he or she needs while you are at work. Thank you for your question 🙂
I’m wanting to enroll this January because I just had my baby, I won’t be going to any other school this semester will that effect me passing in anyway since it will be the second semester?
Hi, Caseybeth. Primavera is happy to help! We enroll throughout the year, so you can absolutely join in January or whenever is best for you. As for credits, we have guidance counselors who will work with you. Plus, you will get to take two courses every six weeks to help you catch up and still have time for your baby:) If you have any other questions, feel free to call us at 480.456.6678. Have a great day!
What kind of supplies do you guys offer; such as ink, paper, or internet subsidy? Do you offer anything like that?My mom is disabled so we are looking for something that has more to offer than Connections Academy, or K12 Arizona Virtual Academy.
Thank you.
Hi, Abbigail. Unfortunately, we do not offer any of the things you mentioned above. However, Primavera is tuition free and does not require you to complete any physical coursework, like K12 and other online schools sometimes require. Since we are 100% online, pens, paper, ink and other materials are good things to have, but not essential. Thank you for your question. 🙂
Can you take hs students with iep?
Hi, Lynn. Yes, we have an exceptional Special Student Services Department who will work personally with 504, IEP plans and any other needs to help you earn your diploma here at Primavera. 🙂
Hello,
May you please reference the specific law indicating that all credits are transferable? Page High School (of Page, Arizona) submits that they have the authority to pick and choose which credits are to be accepted [and which credits are not]. Additionally, I was informed that students wanting to complete courses online are only allowed to enroll in a specific online school (Scottsdale Online); online courses from other schools won’t be accepted. There has been little explanation on their end so…I’d like to know if you have one on your end.
-Kristin
Hi, Kristin. Sorry to hear about that. We have notified our administration of your situation, but here’s a few answers to your questions: The law A.R.S § 15-701(H) requires that all Arizona schools accept credits from other charter schools, including Primavera. Your student is also free to attend whichever online school he/she chooses, contrary to what your school was telling you. You can find more information in our FAQ page, or give us a call at 480.456.6678. We’re happy to help answer any of your questions. 🙂
Are all high school credits that are earned on primavera transferable to universities?
Hi, Faith. Because Primavera is AdvancED accredited, our diploma is recognized by all accredited universities in the country. Thanks for the question. 🙂
Hi, i m 36 years old and I want to complete my high school online, what documents do u need ?
Hello Aisha. Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, we only offer courses to students under 21 years of age. Sorry about that.
What is the process? Plz explain
Hi , I want to know if I can take classes on primavera online and attend my public school
Hi, Carl. Absolutely! 🙂 In fact, you can learn a little about the benefits of doing so in this blog post.
I’m currently in Public highshool but plan to do your online school once my school year is over. But, you’re latest enrollment is on may 10 and I’m still in school. How does that work? Also will my high school credits transfer to this program? And how do elective credits work? By the way, I’m in 10th grade.
Do I have to live in Arizona to be able to attend primavera?
Hi, Mary. Yes, you must be a resident of Arizona in order to attend Primavera. Thanks for the question! 🙂
If it’s 100% online , does that mean at the end of each test the final will be online as well? Also, can you take more than one class for each six week period ??
Hi, Alysa. Great questions! 🙂 Yes, the tests and finals are online. Full-time students enroll in two courses every six weeks. Part-time students (those enrolled in both Primavera and another school) enroll in one course every six weeks. You can learn more by filling out the application here or give us a call at 480.405.2703.
