//Guidance: Math Frustrations

Are you frustrated with math? When asked about math are your thoughts “I can’t do math, I never    have and never will.” Do you find your self giving up and giving in to these negative thoughts? I   have some news for you. YOU CAN DO MATH. And it can be EASY, but like anything it takes   practice to make it easy. So right now start thinking I can do math, and just do it!

When you first signed up with Primavera did you think the courses were easy to navigate? Or did you find yourself confused on what the expectations are? Now that you have finished a few courses, and know how to go back and fix your discussions can you navigate Primavera with your eyes closed? Well math is the same thing, but I do recommend doing it with your eyes OPEN as you need to see the numbers.

Math is a challenging topic that takes practice, what are you doing to practice? Did you just think NOTHING? No way! You are reading this blog, that is something! With AIM’s Math coming up in April I have complied some links that will help you to master math concepts and pass the test (if you use them to practice and perfect the skills you have).

Why does passing the AIM’s Test matter? Well you need them to graduate! After you pass all three, and finish up your credits you can be free from Math forever…. Or at least until you need to balance your bills to paychecks, figure out how much to tip, put together a budget to save for a car, or take that college math course, but that’s practically forever right?

http://www.ixl.com/math/algebra-1 Here is a list of all of the skills students learn in Algebra! The skills are organized into categories, and you can move your mouse over any skill name to see a sample question. To start practicing, just click on any link. IXL will track your score, and the questions will even increase in difficulty as you improve!

http://mathdude.quickanddirtytips.com/ Were you not able to attend the in person tutoring session’s that Primavera offers students because you were working or doing more important things than graduating like sleeping in? The Math Dude offers quick tips to memorize small tips to solve big problems, great for the procrastinator doing some last minute cramming before the test.

http://www.khanacademy.org/ More of a visual learner? This website offers video tutoring, they offer videos on 2,600 different topics. Watch the math concepts be explained to you.

http://www.hippocampus.org/ Another website that offers instructional videos on Math, however this one is geared just toward math and offers step by step videos. Turn on a video, get your notebook, and pretend like the person in the video is in the front of a classroom and take notes like there will be a surprise pop quiz tomorrow.

http://www.algebra.com/ On this website you can do worksheets to practice skills you haven’t quite mastered or you can get help on the homework you are afraid to ask your Instructor for help with.

http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/index.php This is a math site you can use to find the answers to your math questions. It puts a fun spin on math.

http://numbernut.com/index.html Number Nut: Enough math can make anyone nutty. Puts concepts into a way that is easy to read and understand.
