Arizona State University Obama Scholars: This program, new to ASU, covers student’s estimated direct costs of attending (minus Expected Family Contribution as determined by FAFSA) including tuition, room, board (food), books and supplies. Students qualify if they (a) are an Arizona resident, (b) have a family income that is $42,400* or less as demonstrated on the FAFSA application, (c) meet the university’s admission requirements, and (d) attend ASU the year following high school graduation. Students who stay eligible by maintaining satisfactory academic progress can stay in the program and receive assistance for up to 4 years. To apply, a student must apply to ASU and fill out the FAFSA. Then, they will be automatically considered. Visit the link above or your counselor for more information. *This amount has changed from previous years and the program will only remain open until funds are exhausted.
ABORS High Honors Tuition Waiver: This program, offered by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), covers 25% of tuition at either ASU, U of A, or NAU. Students qualify if they (a) complete 16 core courses by graduation with a “B” or better in all courses, (b) earn a minimum 3.5 GPA in those 16 core courses or rank in the top 5% of their graduating class, (c) exceed on all three sections of AIMS (reading, writing, and math) required for graduation, and (d) score a 28 on the ACT or 1300 on the SAT (critical reading and math, excluding essay) tests. There are exceptions to these requirements for students who have successfully passed AP tests. Please visit the counseling office for a brochure and eligibility worksheet.
University of Arizona’s Arizona Assurance Program: This program, offered by the U of A, covers student’s essential costs of attending including tuition, room, board (food), and books. Students qualify if they (a) are an Arizona resident, (b) have a family income that is $42,400 or less as demonstrated on the FAFSA application, (c) meet the university’s admission requirements, (d) attend U of A the year following high school graduation, and (e) qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. Students who stay eligible by maintaining good academic progress can stay in the program and receive assistance for up to 4 years. To apply, a student must apply to U of A and fill out the FAFSA by May 1, and they will be automatically considered. Visit the website listed above or your counselor for more information.
