Every day, people are hard at work trying to solve the problems around us. Whether it’s finding the cure to a disease or coming up with a more convenient way to get a specific task done, we are constantly creating new things and innovating.
On February 16, people make it a point to think up something new and helpful in honor of what is called “Innovation Day.” The day is all about imagining new, better ways of doing things to be innovative.
Innovations help make improvements to a current situation or thing. Some characteristics of an innovation could be:
- It consolidates multiple actions into one
- It provides better service
- It becomes compatible with something
- It saves time
- It saves money
- It saves space
- It lasts longer
- It improves the look and feel of something
- It reduces effort
And innovations can constantly be improved. Part of the beauty is that we can always strive to make something better.
As an online high school, Primavera believes in encouraging our students to think outside the box and spot a problem, think of a solution and start innovating. We know that the best ideas come from collaboration and have seen great things happen when students put their heads together. So to keep along the lines of Innovation day, we decided to share some of the things students at our Blended Learning Center are working with to make change happen.

Learning Robotics
Kaleb Sloan is a S.T.E.M. student at our Blended Learning Center, and he says he likes everything about the program. When it comes to innovations, Kaleb says he enjoys doing experiments and thinks inventing things is fun.
“We’re inventing robots right now and learning how they work…if you create, like a robotic arm it could help people if they had an amputation,” Kaleb shares.
Kaleb says that if he could invent anything it would be a prosthetic exo-suit.
“Kind of like a suit that goes over your skin, like bone.”
Levi Ramirez is brand new to the BLC and is also taking part in the robotics block. Levi says his favorite thing about the S.T.E.M. program so far is that it’s fun and not too hard to follow. Levi says he likes the experience of being able to do experiments and innovate because it can help people.
“Innovations can help move the world along and keep it going,” Levi says.
If Levi could innovate and make anything he would create a robot to help with Police or the Army.
Kaleb and Levi say they’re excited to see how their robots do at the end of the block when their robots will Sumo wrestle each other. We can’t wait to see who is crowned champion of that battle either.
“The most exciting thing about building a robot is (going to be) seeing it progress from a little rolling thing to be able to fight another robot,” Levi says.
