“Jack and Danny”

By Elizabeth Aparo

Two boys with an unbreakable trust

Together wherever they go

Never put away collecting dust

One Jack, One Danny, amid a particular day

They’d grow and laugh

When trouble manifested, they ignore it by play

There was a monster Jack thought, it hid under Danny’s bed

He was scared it would hurt him or Danny

“It’ll be alright. We have each other.” Danny said

Whatever pain Danny felt, Jack did too

“Let’s runaway, somewhere far.”

Jack and Danny started over once they grew

There’s a reason for this, it could be in there head

They always seemed timid at home, aghast in their eyes

Could it be the monster, all along, wasn’t just under the bed?

The two boys came upon a place to stay

Along with it they met a friend

Along with that friend they got a potion to keep the monster away

Soon the potion wasn’t enough for their life

They wanted more

Little did they know it would bring them such strife

They went back to their homes where the monster stayed

He seems to be worse

And more of the potion Danny craved

That night at 7:34 Danny lay blue and grey

A frigid and pale body

The monster had taken him away

Jack couldn’t fathom why the monster took his friend

He screamed at the walls

Could it be possible for a friendship like theirs to have come to an end?

And soon Jack’s complexion began to fade

He seemed of ash and bone

The beat of his chest has become delayed

“I’m scared” Whispered Jack. He seemed dejected

“Scared?” said a voice.

“If your mortified expression was a disease I too would be infected.”

Jack’s pupils were alive, as he looked straight

A smile of a familiar face that almost looked like him

And the look of a friend that can restore his fate

“I need you.” Jack said staring as Danny Stared right back

Danny seemed puzzled then smiled softly

“You’ve had me all along, you’ll be okay, because I am you Jack.”
