“There’s No Place Like…?”
by Alicia Pinckney
Panting, scared, and alone.
I ran to what I thought was safety,
A place call home.
I knock, I scream, I yell,
I need help.
I cried, I beg, I plead,
No one’s here to save me.
I hide inside the dark.
My fears shouldn’t find me here.
A rapid, “bah-boom, bah-boom, bah-boom,”
My heart feels the same as I do.
Oh-no! They’re here; I hear them, not too far from me.
The horrible thoughts filling my head,
When I the terror they can bring me.
Just me, myself, I’m all alone,
Once they get me, I will, I will, I will be… gone.
What haunts me- is something I should have faced
A long time ago.
It is the fact that I have no place to call…
HOME.
