In the past few years, Make a Difference Day has grown from a small organization to a national holiday. And because we have several teachers and students who make a difference in others’ lives, we want to take some moment to shine the light on some incredible Panthers.

What is Make a Difference Day?

We’re willing to bet you can guess the purpose of this holiday: It’s a day to go out and make a difference in someone’s life. On October 22, join in an organized volunteering event, or just take some time to do something small to help the ones you care about. Whatever you do, we’re sure it will be impactful. To learn more about the holiday, check out their website.

How Can I Volunteer?

The Make a Difference organization has made it easy for you to find opportunities to go out and volunteer. Head to Find an Event on their website, type in your zip code and you will be able to see all the events you can attend near you.

But you don’t have to attend an organized event to make a difference! This can be as simple as making breakfast for your family or writing notes of appreciation to a teacher or friend. Little acts of kindness can go a long way to make someone’s life better.

How Primavera Makes a Difference

We love contributing to our community at Primavera! Our Student Government Association club often creates volunteer events for the school to join in. You can also find our onsite Primavera Learning Center students in Chandler at St. Vincent de Paul putting together food packages as you can see in the photos of our students and staff.

Primavera Students Making a Difference

It’s not just our faculty doing great things daily: Our students are making a difference too! Check out the inspiring stories below submitted by two of our Primavera Panthers.

“Recently I was hospitalized and went to a residential treatment center…being there saved me and helped me make a difference in many people’s lives. There was a pediatric unit and I was lucky to be able to work with them. There is one boy who was 10 years old and so angry and so hurt and always was getting restrained. I helped him by listening to him and being there for him and we became best friends. He began to open up to his therapist and began to behave more. I even wrote him a letter about how amazing he was and telling him that he has a future. He used that letter every time he was upset he took it to the staff or to his therapist and had them read it to him. Just one letter. Just one person. That is the power of friendship. This is why I continue to spread my friendship, my kindness to everyone I meet. Being there for others not only helped this kid but so many others and myself. That is what it takes to make a difference in a person’s life: friendship and kindness. It could literally save a life.” -Aaniyah Crawford, 12th grade

“I have made a difference in somebody’s life! Hi, my name is Kandie, and once I volunteered to make sandwiches with a group of friends in order to hand them out to the homeless. I stayed over at a friends and the next morning her mom woke us up so that we could go grocery shopping. We bought bologna, ham, turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, bread and the original bags of lays chips. We drove into downtown Tucson, where there is one main park where the homeless like to stay. We set up tables and started putting together the sandwiches. One by one the men and women started lining up. They were all so very happy, with the biggest smiles on their faces. Seeing them happy and being able to have a meal made us feel happy and warm on the inside. We made so many sandwiches some people were even able to have seconds!” – Kandie Caballero, 12th grade
