The Panther Post features Primavera students with a love for the arts. To kick off this series, we’re sharing an inspiring piece from the Book Club.

This piece was inspired by a good friend who, unfortunately, passed away last year at the age of 15.”
– Carolina Duran, Age 16, 11th grade

Friend

“Did he look at me?”
I ask you with glee
You shake your head with a knowing smile
“This will only last for while”
You assured me about that last time
“My parents don’t understand!”
I say as I kick the sand
You nod your head filled with wisdom
“No parent ever does, it’s part of the system”
But you did understand that I needed time
As I cried over a broken heart
You stood by my side and played the part
As I regretted my time with him
You listened to my words
I thank you for your intelligence
For your patience and your wisdom
The time you spent with me
And the words you said to me
Now as I think about you
And all you did for me
How your friendship saved me
How you rescued me when I needed it
but I realize I can no longer say this to you
Since all I have left are your lessons taught:
Still, I am grateful to have been your friend

We want to hear from you!
