Our Student Spotlights series continues this month with the second part of the story about overcoming adversity. Adversity is one of those unpredictable facts of life. We all experience it at some point– often, more than once– but our hope is that these stories help you through whatever your adversity moment may be.

Devin Moleterno

This next story features full-time Panther Devin Moleterno. Devin is 17 years old and currently in 11th grade although he’s graduating early after putting in a lot of hard work. Devin says he found Primavera through family because his sister actually was enrolled with us for a few blocks as a concurrent student.

Like other teens, Devin has faced difficult situations while attending school and he shares with us a few of the things he has overcome.

“Starting my freshman year I was bullied a lot over many things. I dealt with my problems in a positive manner. At home I was bullied, for, of course, being gay. This was an issue that affected my grades. Come my sophomore year, legal stuff happened between my biological mother and I that made me move away from my school,” says Devin.

Devin tells us that Primavera was the best option for him because it allowed him to get a job and save money.

“I chose Primavera because it works with my job and my life schedule. It is also allowing me to be an early graduate due to the accelerated learning program. I am proud to be a student here. The staff is nice and supporting. I love it here!” says Devin.

Although going from brick-and-mortar to online proved to be challenging at first, Devin says Primavera has given him many benefits like having a flexible schedule and providing accelerated learning.

“Primavera helps me succeed by allowing me to do school work whenever I want to,” says Devin.

Devin is excited to graduate and move into a career in the medical field. He wants to become a Registered Nurse.

“I live by this quote and it makes me who I am today: ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’ Another quote that I came up with was: ‘Success only comes from those who take fear and failure head on.'”

Michael Lewis Tryon

Another full-time panther who has overcome challenges at a young age is Michael Lewis Tryon. Michael says he found Primavera because he needed a better option for his education due to health condition problems.

“I was really sick around the time of my freshman year of high school. That was due to my diseases which had been taking a heavy toll on my life at the time,” says Michael.

Michael suffers from Crohn’s disease and says that going to a traditional school was far from ideal.

“The biggest benefit of Primavera was being able to work from home, since that had been an issue in the past for me. I really enjoy being able to work at my own pace, being that I sometimes need to take a few days off for medical reasons.”

Michael says that if he hadn’t found Primavera Online High School he doesn’t think he would have been able to graduate high school at all. He shares with us that the staff at Primavera are great because they’re happy to help students and anyone who asks for assistance.

“Primavera helps me succeed by helping me stay confident. All I can honestly say here is how blessed I am to have the teachers and staff that helped me get where I am today. They are amazing.”
