Name: Jennifer Hester
Hometown: Memphis. TN
Where did you attend college? The University of Tennessee, BS; Northern Arizona University- MA in progress
What subject(s) do you teach and why? English
When I was young my parents owned a bookstore and I often spent time there. I read so many books and learned to keep myself occupied by reading. Slowing, I gained an appreciation for writing, literature and non-fiction. Sadly, I discovered when my child was in high school that her peers rarely engaged in reading or writing for fun. Because I cannot imagine life without the written word, I began a quest to help young people gain an appreciation for literature and writing. I returned to school at age 48 to obtain my English teaching certificate. After working at Primavera for a year, I learned that I love and believe in online education as an alternative to the traditional classroom. I am now attending NAU to earn my MA in Educational Technology so that I can better serve my students.
What do you enjoy doing outside of school? Outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, sailing and water sports, dogs, friends, hot yoga and traveling
Do you have any advice to help students succeed in an online high school?
Work daily in your classes, come to the live Adobe sessions and stay in contact with your teacher.
What is your favorite book/movie? Although I don’t have a clear favorite, I do enjoy historically based works like; “Unbroken”, “Undaunted Courage”, “The Red Tent.”
What are 3 things you absolutely cannot live without? My family, my I phone and my doggies
What is your favorite dessert/food? Peach cobbler, warm chocolate chip cookies
What are two things on your bucket list? To return to Italy, to run a marathon
