Teacher Spotlight: Karly Barksdale
Name: Karly Barksdale
Hometown: Hilton Head Island, SC (currently living in Gilbert)
Where did you attend college? BYU
What subject(s) do you teach and why? I wear many different hats! I teach high school and middle school. High School: My Success, 7 habits, and all levels of Spanish. Middle School: Spanish, The Choice is Yours, and Social Studies. I love that I have so many different things to teach because it keeps me on my toes. My favorite thing about teaching is learning myself, which is probably why I picked education in the first place. I like being a perpetual student. J
What do you enjoy doing outside of school? I love cooking, swimming, volleyball, going to the gym, going to the library and reading. I have a three year old daughter that I love spending time with and going to all her activities as well.
Do you have any advice to help students succeed in an online high school? My biggest piece of advice is to keep in contact with your teacher and stay on pace! We send a pacing calendar out for a reason at the start of the block. Also, by having a good relationship with your teacher they will know what’s going on in your life and better able to work with you in special circumstances. Plus, we just love getting to know you because we don’t get you in an actual classroom.
What is your favorite book/movie? My favorite book is “The Giver,” and my favorite movie is “Remember the Titans.”
What are 3 things you absolutely cannot live without? My family, my cell phone, and Netflix!
What is your favorite dessert/food? My favorite food is Pizza, and I LOVE ice cream.
What are two things on your bucket list? I would love to run a half marathon, and I would love to travel. I really want to go to Jackson Hole for the mountains and Bali for the beaches!

I would like to visit Bali too. It was on the movie Eat Pray Love.
