nick_montelongoPrimavera would like to award Mr. Montelongo as this week’s teacher spotlight, for his outstanding effort as a social studies teacher at Primavera Online High School. Mr. Montelongo’s passion for teaching is driven by his interest in facts and evidence in history.   He enjoys providing personalized attention to his students and utilizes adobe sessions often to assist in his instruction. In these adobe sessions, Mr. Montelongo is specific and precise on information the student needs to know to exceed. Every time the student attends an adobe session, Mr. Montelongo awards them 10 extra credit points. To keep the students interested, he goes out of his way to provide videos that are relevant to his lessons. Mr. Montelongo believes that mixing video with text increases their retention level.

Mr. Montelongo is always looking for ways to improve his student’s knowledge and writing skills. He often goes above and beyond to help his students. For example, Mr. Montelongo had a student that was having a hard time passing his courses. He spent countless hours on the phone walking the student through any issues he was encountering. With Mr. Montelongo’s patience, the student was able to pass a course for the first time. This was not the only student that benefited from Mr. Montelongo.  One year Mr. Montelongo had a 14 year old student that was heavily involved with playing tennis. She would play tennis all day, and then start her course work at night. Since Mr. Montelongo was flexible in helping the student, she was able to pass the course with A.

Mr. Montelongo: Biking, Volleyball, football, grilling and relaxing of course

Mr. Montelongo: Appalachian State University (North Carolina)

What are two things on your bucket list?

Mr. Montelongo:  Set foot on all 7 continents, maybe even the moon. Attend a Super bowl
