At Primavera, we provideย our studentsย with the toolsย needed to excel in high schoolย andย graduateย with more than a fully-accredited diploma.ย In this blog series, we highlight resources to help you learn more about Primavera’s quality online education.

If you’re a full-time Primavera student thinking of attendingย college,ย you should consider dual-credit courses. Find out more about receiving college credits while attending Primavera.

What is Dual Credit?

Taking a dual-credit course means that one course’s credits can be appliedย toward both yourย high school diploma and yourย future college degree. For example, if you enroll in our English dual-credit course, you will receive a one halfย high school credit, as well as three English 101 college credits accepted at all Arizona universities and many other universities throughout the country.

Why Enroll in Dual-Credit Courses?

We’ve got fourย good reasons:

  • 1. Get aย head start on college
When you sign up for a dual-credit course, you are “double dipping.” Dual-creditย courses give you the high school credits you need to graduate, and additionally give you college credits to give you a head start on your college education while working on your high school diploma. Throughย Primavera, you can knock out almostย a full semester of college while in high school, just by taking dual-credit courses!
  • 2. Getย more personalized attention
When you attend college, your class sizes will most likely be large and your teacher may be less accessible, especially if you’re planning on going straight to a university. Here at Primavera, our teachers are available via phone, email, chat and scheduled in-person appointments. If you’re going to take the class anyway, why not take it here at Primavera while you can still get any extra support you may need?
  • 3. No need to purchase a textbook
As with all Primavera courses, our dual-credit courses are 100% online, which means there’s no need to purchase a textbook. College, on the other hand, requires textbooks for almost all their classes, which can cost anywhere from $75โ€“200 each!
  • 4. Save money on tuition
It’s no secret that college is expensive. Luckily, dual-credit courses cost the price of a community college course, which is significantly less expensiveย than a university or trade school. What’s more, if you’re a current full-time student thinking about signing up for a dual-credit course in the fall, you mayย qualify for financial aid and get college credit for free! For more information on financial aid, contact Primavera guidance counselor Ryan Peterson at 480.456.6678

Dual-Credit Courses Offered at Primavera:

  • English 12A (ENG 101)
  • English 12B (ENG 102)
  • Psychology A (PSY 101)

Dual enrollment courses are accessed through the your Parent Student Portal account PSP and followย the same format as every other Primavera course. They have the same types of assignments, and you navigate through them the same way, so itโ€™s an easy transition to go from regular Primavera courses to dual enrollment courses.

We’re always lookingย to expand our course catalog. If you have a dual-credit course you would like to take that we don’t have, mention it toย your guidance counselor!

For questions or any other information on dual-credit courses, call the Guidance Department at 480.456.6678.
