It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and we would like to take some time to show our appreciation to our favorite valentines: our students! As an online school, we love being able to provide you an alternative option so you can get your diploma—no matter your circumstances.

Our staff is dedicated to helping you! Whether that means simply teaching lessons or providing you with one-on-one help, our teachers want you to succeed. Today, we’re featuring two of our Primavera teachers.

Mrs. Mary Ann Easterwood

Our first teacher is Mrs. Mary Ann Easterwood, an electives instructor who has been teaching at Primavera for a little over eight years. Mrs. Easterwood says she enjoys teaching here at Primavera because of our hardworking students.

“I love teaching young adults,” Mrs. Easterwood said. “They have survival skills and go on in spite of many uncommitted parents and no one to depend on.”

Mrs. Easterwood loves Valentine’s Day because it gives her the chance to give friends and family gifts and see “the thankful look on their faces.” Another thing she loves: helping a Primavera student succeed. Not too long ago, Mrs. Easterwood recalls a time when she was able to do just that.

“A former student of mine was very depressed and going through many personal issues and lost a parent. In her previous classes, she had very low grades or did not pass at all. I spent extra time with her, encouraged her and let her know that I was extremely proud of her accomplishments. At the end of the class she wrote me an email thanking me for helping her. She stated that she was failing continuously and nearly gave up on school completely, but now she had her confidence back because I encouraged her to strive for excellence. She stated that she looked forward to reading my feedback on projects and when she saw there was a message from me waiting for her to read, it put a smile on her face and in her heart.”

To Mrs. Easterwood, those moments are what makes being a teacher so rewarding. “I know that I am making tomorrow a better place, one child at a time,” said Mrs. Easterwood.

When it comes to advice, Mrs. Easterwood has an important takeaway for all you Primavera students.

“Don’t be discouraged and give up just because it is hard. Look at me! I didn’t go to college until I was 44. Whatever you want to do, if you do it with all your heart, it will happen.”

Mr. Ramesh Joshi

Our next feature is of Mr. Ramesh Joshi, a math instructor who has been teaching for 10 years. Mr. Joshi’s favorite part of being a teacher is helping all students understand math.

“From the student perspective, I try to take the fear out of learning math and hopefully make it more enjoyable, fun and exciting,” Mr. Joshi said.

Like Mrs. Easterwood, Mr. Joshi loves being able to help students succeed and discover their own potential. One of his favorite moments here at Primavera was a time when he helped a student overcome her struggle with math.

“One of my students was so overjoyed in getting her first-ever B in a math class, she vouched that when she gets the Nobel Peace Prize, she will mention me in her speech.”

Valentine’s Day is important to Mr. Joshi because it gives him the chance to show his appreciation for his friends and family. One of his favorite quotes: “Everyone has someone in his or her life that keeps him looking forward to another day.”

When it comes to advice, Mr. Joshi wants to let you know:

“You have made a good choice. Primavera is a very good school. Stay patient and you will achieve your goals.”

Remember, our instructors are always just a phone call, an email or even a PSP chat message away! We hope all of you have a great Valentine’s Day!
