At Primavera, we provide our students with the tools needed not only to graduate but to excel while in high school, and that’s why we have special resources that allow you to graduate with more than an accredited diploma. In this series, we highlight one of Primavera’s many resources available to students.

Amongst the various elective offerings at Primavera Online High School is psychology. Available as beginner elective and higher level dual enrollment, psychology courses online through Primavera are a great way to gain useful knowledge and earn college credits while you’re at it.

To help you learn more about taking psychology courses online while earning dual credit, we’ve asked guidance counselor Ryan Peterson and Psychology Instructor Wendy Kolberg a few questions.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment is an opportunity for students to take a course at Primavera and earn credits for both high school and college. For example, if you took Dual Enrollment Psychology A at Primavera, you would earn an elective credit toward your high school diploma while also earning a Psychology 101 credit through Rio Salado, which transfers to most universities and all universities and colleges in Arizona.

Why Should I Take a Dual Enrollment Course?

Aside from getting a head start on college while in high school, dual enrollment can save you a lot of money, as Mr. Peterson said.

“Primavera dual enrollment obtain college credit through Rio Salado’s, whose tuition rate is $84 per credit.  By comparison, just as an example, Grand Canyon University’s tuition rate is $687.50 per credit!” said Mr. Peterson. “Plus, when you take courses via dual enrollment, you avoid the cost of paying for a textbook. As with all Primavera courses, we never require you to purchase a textbook. Textbooks these days can run up to $200.  It’s very nice to be able to avoid that cost.”

Why Should I Take a Psychology Course Online With Primavera?

Psychology is a great elective course that will help you change the way you think about yourself and others, as Ms. Kolberg said.

“Psychology at Primavera is great because the class is incredibly interesting, fun and most importantly, affords them what is often their first opportunity for self-exploration,” said Ms. Kolberg. “Learning about your own and others’ ways of thinking will help you throughout life in ways you could never even imagine!”

How Do I Qualify for Psychology Dual Enrollment?

In order to qualify, students must:

  •  Be in 11th grade or older,  completed at least 12 credits or age-wise be in the third year of high school or beyond.
  • Have not previously taken Psychology either with Primavera or at a different high school.
  • Even if a student has completed their elective requirement for graduation, they are still eligible to take Psychology A for college credit!
