Father’s day is just around the corner and we didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to share just one of the stories from our Primavera students who are also fathers.

Today, we meet twelfth grader, Alex Timothy Garbareno who found Primavera searching for online high school options on the internet. He is a full-time student and father. Here’s his story.

Alex Timothy Garbareno, 19

“I became interested in Primavera because it looked like a good option to help me catch up in school and in credits so I can still graduate with a diploma. It also looked appealing because of the focus of two classes at a time as well as giving me the flexible schedule to continue my job and to be home a lot to spend time with my son and help take care of him,” says Alex.

Like for many students, finding the motivation to work on classes instead of playing games or hanging out with friends, was not easy for Alex. But he worked hard and soon he discovered this was the right choice for him.

“I found that I was able to learn and study better online than in class. The focus of only two accelerated classes at a time was very helpful to retaining information and being able to do better on tests… It

[Primavera] gave me the ability to catch up in school at my own pace as well as give the time for me to spend with my son and family,” says Alex.

Alex shares that balancing life and school hasn’t been easy. He says he fits in getting things done for school, work, spending time with his loved ones and having some personal time to himself every so often.

Alex says his plan after Primavera is to get to College.

“My plan is to learn how to get into a computer technical field so that I can get a good job to take care of my family…I haven’t been a dad for very long but being one has made me extremely happy. I wouldn’t want to change it for world,” says Alex.

“Primavera helps me succeed by giving me the ability to do school on my free time, which I have very little of. It allowed me to earn credits quickly while still spending time with my family so I did not have to drop out of school.”
