As this week comes to a close, we have selected Ms. McPhall as our teacher spotlight. Ms. McPhall dedicates her time to her high school American History and Government students, giving them the proper one on one attention they deserve. Ms. McPhall stands out for her ability to relate with students making them feel more comfortable in an online environment. She feels that it is important that her students have positive effort in wanting to understand the materials and complete their courses.
After graduating from Lake Superior State University in 2008, Ms. McPhall worked at Imagine schools then later transferred to Primavera. When starting at Primavera, Ms. McPhall was looking forward to using technology as a way to reach out to a bigger variety of students. She was also looking forward to collaborating with her colleagues because she feels Primavera’s environment is so well suited compared to a brick and mortar school where she felt isolated in a classroom.
Ms. McPhall reaches out to many of her students as a guide to success. One student in particular that she feels she has helped, was a student struggling with writing essays. When asking her how she helped the student, she responded “I established a good rapport with him so he was able to open up asks questions and get help”. With her constant contact, it only took the student 6 weeks to get A’s on his essays and he was very proud in what he accomplished.
